The Legacy of Carlos Bulosan - Wednesday, October 19th from 6-7:30pm
Register at www.linktr.ee/philippineprogress
Carlos Bulosan was a writer, poet, and novelist who arrived in Seattle in 1930. Like so many Filipinos, he migrated to the US in search of a better life. His experiences and hardships as a new immigrant living in America were documented in his prolific writing and is best known for his novel America is in the Heart, followed by his collection of short stories, The Philippines is in the Heart.
This event will showcase Carlos Bulosan's poetry, read and performed by community organizers, poets, and academics up and down the west coast. It will also give a basic introduction to his life in the Pacific Northwest, where his archives are preserved (at the UW special collections), and where his remains are buried (Mount Pleasant Cemetary in Seattle). Spend time with Executive Director, Rossella De Leon and Communications Coordinator, Ronald Antonio, as they share why Carlos Bulosan's work is still relevant today and why we must continue to share his love for the Philippines with the rest of the world.
